This is Ty Hildenbrandt from SI and the Solid Verbal Podcast (you were on our show). Just stumbled across your site and wanted to let you know that I really enjoy your essays. Really well-done.
I’ve never done the online dating thing, but I love your perspective on it. When I was in college, we did a study on those sites (I was an Information Technology major) and found a lot of the same things that you mention in your essay. One big one I think you left out is the girl who “knows what she wants” — lots of those. They all seem to know what they want, don’t they? Incredible.
Anyway, hope all is well on your end and keep up the fine work.

Hi Stewart,
Great site, it’s good to see some more Stewart Mandel writing on the internet. I was on the verge of mailbag withdrawal.
Here’s a great supplement to your piece on airline travel….
hey stewart,
as an avid reader of your column at SI.com, I was pretty bummed when you decided to bounce from the college football scene. Thank god you’re back. Just finished your book, its awesome, well done. Looking forward to some awesome coverage of the college football this year and in the future. (seriously, dont just leave again, you gotta come up with better excuses than just “taking time off”)

Hey Stewart,
Great to have you back.
Loved your essay about your “drinking-problem”. I am with you on that one. I am also one of those ‘weirdos’ who can spend an evening perfectly fine with a coke (or two or three…)
I am always wondering: Is there a bar which does NOT serve alcohol at all? If yes, why not doing a (sober) “Tweet-Up” there some time??
At the next bar/party where you want to blend in a little bit, order a pint filled half with apple juice and half with sparkling water – looks just like a beer and nobody will bother you. Works good for me!
Keep up the good work and continue writing – to me it does not matter if it’s about football or general life philosophy.

Stew…I was afraid you were gone forever…that being said, Auburn-Clemson Syndrome will live on for generations to come…and may even encompass Louisville at some future date…

I have to say the only think i dinna like about your site—– wait for it—-
NOT ENOUGH!
I hope you will continue to write this kind of stuff while you do the college sports gig! I know it is a huge time suck (and like, man, its work, man), but you are too good and too funny not to share your other thoughts as well!
The alcohol essay made me think of one of my good buddies who is a huge sports fan and gay. Without dissing you, I found the disconnect somewhat similar. Hanging out at a sports bar gets him in contact with a lot of homophobia, hanging out at a gay bar takes him too far from sports! Like the person who responded to you looking for a bar with no booze, we’ve thought about trying to find/start a gay-friendly sports bar. Its not easy when anyone steps outside society’s convenient slots!
Stay funny, my friend!

Stewart,
After reading your latest publication in SI, or as I like to call it, SEC-I, I was wondering if you would do a study comparing Ohio State and Oklahoma and their recent history in bowl games dating back to 2003. If you study that closely, you will see that your inherent Ohio State/Big 10 bashing is unwarranted. Thank you.

Stew…is that thing about the Big Ten not scheduling night games after October legit? I seem to recall last year’s Iowa-Minnesota game being played in the evening (does it make a difference that it was played indoors?).
Also, Temple was bowl-eligible as recently as 1990, but their last bowl appearance was in 1979 (RIP Garden State Bowl)…
P.S. I kept it clean in referencing last year’s Floyd of Rosedale contest…

Dear Stewart,
I read your book Bowls, Polls & Tattered Souls, for my 12th grade research paper. I must say your book was more then insightful and helped me in understanding all the chaos that follows college football. I’ve always thought the BCS was more then confusing and found it hard to follow. But I had the chance to read your book given to me by my teacher Mr.Harrison. To put it in simple terms Im writing this to thank-you for writting this book in the first place, sense it made my project far more appealing. I would love to hear a responce from you to share with my classmates, but I know your busy.
